About ScienceDirect® Journals

About ScienceDirect®

ScienceDirect® is an online platform for scientific, technical, and medical research. It provides access to the full text of more than 1,500 Elsevier Science journals and either hosts or provides linking capabilities to partner publishing group content from sources such as Cell Press and CRC Press. Full text journal coverage dates will vary, although most journals include coverage from January 1996 to the present. Additional pre-publication content, "Articles in Press", is offered. This early release service makes peer-reviewed papers available online that have been accepted for publication but have not completed the formal publishing process. ScienceDirect® adds new content on an ongoing basis, and license rights must be negotiated for any added content on a title-by-title basis.

Searching Options

You may browse for specific licensed Elsevier Science or partner published articles, or you may search the ScienceDirect® Abstracts Database for free abstracts from all Elsevier Science journals as well as non-Elsevier Science core journals in the major scientific disciplines.

Accessing ScienceDirect®

Access to ScienceDirect® is provided to UT Southwestern faculty, staff, and students.

Personal Login

To take full advantage of ScienceDirect® features, you must create a personal account. The personal login option offers the ability to save searches; create e-mail alerts for saved searches, new journals, and new articles citing a selected article; create personal journals lists; and specify the number of retrieved documents displayed per page in your search results. A one-time registration is required to create a personal user name and password. Select the registration option from ScienceDirect's home page and complete the registration form.

Article Format

All full-text articles in ScienceDirect® are available in PDF format. Depending on the article type and production process of the journal, full-text HTML, including linked references, is usually available.
